去年十一月中旬，英國《泰晤士報》以超過十萬英鎊（約合新台幣六百四十萬元）的代價………
掛名贊助英國「空檔年大展」（The Gap Year Show）。
什麼是「空檔年」？它有多重要？從兩位英國王子身上，就可得知一二。
英國威廉王子在入讀大學之前的空檔年，以十個月的時間，到智利參與當地扶貧的義工服務，扛木頭、劈木柴、教英語、洗馬桶。形象欠佳的哈利王子，也曾在他的空檔年前往澳洲及非洲遊歷，期間，他在飽受愛滋病困擾的南非小國賴索托停留八週，以手提攝影機，完成一部紀錄片「被遺忘的國度」。
傳統上，空檔年就是歐洲年輕人「轉大人」的階段，他們絕大多數是藉由出國壯遊（Grand Tour），來完成這項成年禮。

清大志工服務團深入坦尚尼亞的馬賽部落服務，在水源缺乏、沒有電、沒有任何文明社會的網路、就連電話訊號都沒有的地方生活，這群大學生的壯遊將會撞擊出什麼樣的故事跟火花呢？

帶領這群年輕人的是來自法國的龍若望神父，他期許同學們在服務別人的時候變成更好的人!這群離開家鄉的年輕人，在東非的荒漠草原裡實踐自我，展現無比的熱情!用服務體驗生命的感動,用熱情發現新世界,展開人生的第一趟壯遊！
位於東非赤道以南的坦尚尼亞，面積相當26個台灣大，人口卻只有四千多萬，耕地貧瘠乾旱！
2011年暑假這群志工團隊將在這裡進行為期34天的服務，深入東非荒漠展開一個多月的壯遊行程。在沒有爹娘的服侍，沒有舒適空間，遊非洲，首先考驗的就是你的適應能力！
馬賽人是目前非洲僅存的遊牧民族，他們鮮少跟外界接觸, 這群”大學生了沒”怎麼打破藩籬隔閡，跟他們進行溝通？
八到十月的旱季期間，缺乏糧食的狀況會更加嚴重，
志工團與外景隊決定盡點棉薄之力，集資購買玉米粉
旅遊時間「長」、行程挑戰性「高」、與人文社會互動「深」、特別是經過規畫，以高度意志徹底執行的壯遊行程。
