JOHN ROBERT ADDISON, Sr., 86 LAKELAND John Robert Addison, Sr., passed away peacefully from natural causes on 3/5/14. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on 10/29/27 to Edward T. Adelene Addison. Survived by his brother, Edward T. Addison Jr. in Pennsylvania, children: John R. Addison Jr., Valerie A. Clanton, Mark C. Addison Sr., their spouses, their mother, Suzanne Addison, and grandchildren Brittany, Michael, Mark Jr., Anna, and Nicholas. John cherished his childhood, often speaking fondly of his family. As a boy, his mother had a hard time keeping him inside. He and neighborhood kids used a vacant field, makeshift bases, taped balls, and cracked bats to play baseball. In 1945, he began playing baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics. Drafted by the Army in 1946 and discharged in 1947, John quickly returned to baseball until 1949. He remained involved, playing a key role in the development of the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society. John enjoyed his role as Vice President for Player Relations and the camaraderie that came with it. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Services will be held there at 4450 Harden Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33813 on Saturday March 15. Memorial services will begin at l pm, with visitation beginning at 12pm, and reception following the memorial. Charitable donations can be made to the St. “BILL” BAIR, 65 The Ledger LAKE WALES William S. “Bill” Bair of Lake Wales passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Florida Hospital Orlando due to complications of heart surgery. He was born June 8, 1948, in Hudson, NY, and came here from Auburndale in 1972. He was a reporter/columnist for the Daily Highlander for 6 years and most recently the Lakeland Ledger for 31 years. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Frederick H. Bair, Jr. and a brother, Rick Bair. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Martha Bair; daughter, Cinnamon Bair and husband, Brandon Walts of Dry Drayton, UK; son, Eric Bair and wife, Rayne of Montgomery, AL; mother, Margaret H. Bair of Auburndale; sister, Laura Jesseph of Bloomington, IN; and one granddaughter, Amelia Bair. Memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church of Auburndale with Rob Quam officiating. For those who wish, donations may be sent to any charity of choice. BROWN, 80 LAKE ALFRED William Brown passed away March 7, 2014, peacefully to the arms of our Lord, due to dementia. Born in Champaign, IL. he came to the Winter Haven area in 1974. He was a Corporal in the Army from 1953 1955. He was the Head Teller Asst. Cashier in banking before moving to FL. Later he started his own business of window replacement porch enclosures. He worked at Sears locally then at Eagle Ridge Mall for about 10 years. He was a handy man for his family many church friends, neighbors and anyone who was in need. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lilla and two daughters Debra (Mark) Rue and Lora (Chuck) Wooten and 2 grandchildren Megan Jason Towe. His brother Jack (Pat) of Winter Haven, brother Jerry (Linda) of Utah, brother Cy of FL, sister Penny (Richard) Anderson, sister Darlene Rouse, both of Utah and Uncle Howard Mautner of Ocala. A memorial service will be held at Winter Haven Christian Church at 301 Sixth St NE, Winter Haven on Friday, March 14th at 11:00. Interment will be at Bushnell Military Cemetery at a later date. Virginia was born September 1, 1929 in Calhoun County, Alabama to Reaves and Claudie Kelley. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her church, The Way at Inwood, and her church family. Her passion was keeping a home where God was the cornerstone. She enjoyed gospel music, jigsaw puzzles, quilting, and baking, especially her famous coconut pies. Virginia is survived by her husband of 55 years, William C. “Bill” Elliott of Lake Alfred; daughters, Frankie Bamberg (Hoss) of Polk City, Mary Glass (Dwayne) of Lake Alfred, Tammy Harris (Bailey) of Gladewater, TX; step daughters, Reba Griffith (Randy) of Wellington, AL, Patsy Alldredge of Gadsden, AL; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wed. March 12, from 10 am until 11 am at The Way at Inwood Baptist Church, corner of 34th Street, NW and Ave. M., Winter Haven. Funeral Services will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Way at Inwood or Moffitt Cancer Center. His life was defined by his generosity and loyalty. He was born August 6, 1949, in Winter Haven, and attended schools in Lake Wales and Winter Haven High School where he excelled in academics and music. Ron graduated from the University of South Florida in 1971, and began his entrepreneurial quest that spread from Jacksonville through Central Florida. His love for music and theatre continued for his lifetime. He traveled extensively and considered New York City and Paris his favorites. He supported cabaret and Broadway performers in New York City and locally through art guilds. Ron loved to read, especially the obits. Ron supported numerous organizations through the George and Dorothy Forsythe Family Foundation. His love for children and the elderly is evidenced by the time and support given to: Volunteers In Service to the Elderly (VISTE), Freedom Waters Foundation, More Health, Friends Together, and Florida Southern College. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Dorothy Forsythe, and his sister Billie Jo Pisaneschi. He is survived by his loving partner, David Masse, Buster, Rufus and family members: Tom and Judy Milwee, David Robison, John Robison, and Jane Benaustti, Bonnie Matthews, Melissa Schauer and Lynn Ramert. His extended family include: Caroline Hitchcock, Burt and Mary Jo Hitchcock, Bill and Teresa Hitchcock, William and Melody Gregory, Vic and Cindy Adams, Rita Mariani, Sister Joanne Boyle and Sister Carmel Rose Saizan, Frank and Alice O’Riley and Jane Bourkart.
