一個影響全世界、造就生物進化論的秘境，就在南美洲厄瓜多的外海「加拉巴哥群島」，這裡是達爾文物競天擇的生存遊戲「演化論」重要據點。兩百萬年前一次海底火山爆發，不斷噴出的熔漿被海水冷卻，形成了加拉巴哥島群，慢慢的，植物種子隨風飄來，鳥類、爬蟲類也經由浮木飄移到各個獨立島嶼上，在與世隔絕的天堂裡，繁衍出特有的物種，為生命演化的謎團提供了線索。這裡有世界上唯一能適應海洋生活的蜥蜴—海鬣蜥，和現存唯一見過達爾文的生物～200歲的巨龜孤獨「喬治」。
